Since starting my practice in 2013 I've found my work guided by a desire to create connections with people that are positive, authentic and playful.
As filmmaker I wrote, performed and produced the short film
Top Joe, selected by Mark Leckey for Liverpool Film Night and later screened at Manchester Cornerhouse. This led to live performances as the hi-vis clad comedy/spoken word/theatre character 'Top Joe' including a solo theatre commission for
Word of Warning at Contact Theatre, Manchester.
A comedy career as Top Joe resulted in winning
Liverpool Echo Stand Up of the Year 2016 and performing alongside TV names at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. I performed in comedy clubs and cabarets around the country including numerous solo theatre & comedy runs at Edinburgh Fringe and Latitude. As Top Joe I currently host the Music Appreciation Social Séance -
MASS.
In 2021 I was mentored by T.S. Eliot prize winner, Joelle Taylor, through a course run by
Writing on the Wall. This resulted in my first published work,
Ghost Bones, a poetry anthology created in collaboration with writers Jackdaw Faust and Aimee Blackledge.
As a freelance filmmaker I've worked with a number of theatre makers to document their work, including
Izzie Major's CURTAINS,
Fabiola Santana’s A Home for Grief,
Will Dickie's Team of The Decades and Travelled Companions' Where Caterpillars Go. I worked with the artist Craig Sinclair to provide the cinematography for his short film
BLIGHT; as well as filming music videos for the bands
Real Terms, Gintis and
Holy Gloam. I also make videos for charities such as
The Reader and Community Integrated Care.
As a freelance facilitator I've worked for the Storyhouse & Agency Change Makers to mentor young people and produce a community documentary. I've taught comedy workshops to students at Leeds Beckett University and disabled artists at RAWD. I also work as a freelance performer and children's storyteller for various arts organisations.
My practice also includes guerilla gardening and documenting the place I live - The Webster Triangle - a 'regeneration area' that over the years has had a number of narratives imposed upon it by all but the residents who live here. I now help in the reimagining of this place.
